Why we started Prod Crate
Every producer we know has a drive they’re afraid to unplug. We started Prod Crate so a sample library is something you never have to think about.

Every producer we know has one: an external drive with years of samples, projects, and bounces on it, and no copy anywhere else. Some have three, with overlapping contents and no idea which is the latest. We had those drives too.
What cloud storage gets wrong
General-purpose cloud storage wasn’t built for music. It syncs files, but it doesn’t know a kick from a vocal, it doesn’t know which samples a project needs, and it charges full price to store WAV files that could be half the size.
What we’re building
- A library that lives in the cloud and opens in Finder and your DAW as if it were local
- Sorting by instrument, key, and BPM that happens on its own
- Project safety, so a session from any year opens with every sample
- Storage that treats audio as audio: lossless, and roughly half the size
We’re a team of eight, including producers, a mastering engineer, and people who have built storage systems at scale. Nightshift Audio and Parallax Records have run their catalogs on Prod Crate since the first alpha build, and their feedback decides most of what we build next.
The private alpha opened in February. If you want in, the waitlist is open.
